Pearl & Maude patterns are developed from the Los Angeles heritage architecture and street light paintings of our founder, Teale Hatheway.

CarbonShack Design is driven by the philosophy that to create a truly low impact building, design must empower occupants to be stewards of the environment.This house serves as a case study, a comprehensive prototype for a new definition of green building. By integrating principles of high efficiency, low-impact materials, and natural aesthetics, this house provides environmental solutions for the variety of issues that remain unresolved by conventional green design. On top of that, strongly influenced by Art Nouveau and the Arts & Crafts Movement, the design imagery throughout the house - lighting, woodwork, metalwork, fabrics, tiling, etc. - integrates science and art to celebrate the “wild within us”, the microbiome.
